Aston Villa Women have sacked head coach Natalia Arroyo following a winless start to the Women's Super League season. The club confirmed the departure on Tuesday after a 4-0 defeat by Tottenham on Sunday left the side 13th in the table with just two points from four games.
Brian Sørensen, the club's Women's Technical Advisor, has taken interim charge of the first team. He will lead the side in their Women's League Cup match against Newcastle United Women at Keys Park on Wednesday evening.
Arroyo had been in charge since January 2025, arriving from Real Sociedad Femenino. She helped secure Villa's WSL status last season but could not halt a poor run this term, which has seen the team fail to win any of their opening four league matches. The club issued a statement thanking her for her efforts. "Everyone at Aston Villa would like to thank Natalia for her efforts and wish her all the best in her future endeavours," it said.
With Villa second from bottom and having conceded 10 goals already, the focus turns to an immediate turnaround under Sørensen. He was due to join the Republic of Ireland setup for a World Cup qualifier but will now remain at Villa during the international break. The team's next WSL fixture is at home to Crystal Palace on 4 October.
